Investment Solutions for Nonprofits

North Berkeley Investment Partners has a long-standing commitment to working in the community. We bring years of dedication and experience to our work with mission-driven organizations by providing access to financial services to which they might otherwise be excluded. Our goal is to strengthen organizations by providing financial clarity and stability through the proper management of reserves.

Our investment solutions for nonprofits are designed for steady long-term growth paired with downside protection. Portfolios are constructed based on the specific needs of each organization. We also provide expertise in portfolios that consider environmental, social and corporate governance factors alongside financial returns.

A financial advisory team to strengthen your organization’s mission

Our goal is to help nonprofits make confident investment decisions to steward funds that support their mission. Management is orchestrated around each organization’s unique reserve policy including their risk capacity, time horizon, liquidity needs, and institutional values.

Philosophy
Our core philosophy is deeply rooted in value investing. We believe that being invested in stocks allows for nonprofit organizations to grow capital over the long-term, but, when possible, we prefer to buy those stocks on sale. We also believe that any decisions we make with nonprofit clients must be based on their entire structural and financial picture.

Approach
We apply a blend of passive and active investments to create diversified portfolios that promote growth and provide downside protection. Our portfolios are flexible, long-term oriented, and guided by a disciplined investment approach.

ESG Investments
Nonprofit clients, like many of our individual clients, are committed to strengthening their local and global communities. We provide the option for this commitment to be reflected in investment strategies.

For interested organizations, we have constructed portfolio models that consider the environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) criteria of an investment alongside financial returns. This approach seeks to understand the impact of an investment on society with the hope of screening out companies that have a negative impact and reinforcing companies that are profitable and sustainable.

Stock Donation Assistance
We will set up a brokerage account to accept in-kind donations. Donations will be liquidated and either added to investments or sent directly to the organizations’ bank account.

Active Nonprofit Participation

We are not only experts in helping nonprofits with financial matters, we also participate on nonprofit boards and committees. Our extensive experience guiding small businesses, both for-profit and nonprofit, provides contextual support to the more narrow area of financial and investment decision-making. We believe that the experience gained from sitting on boards, working with community partners, and volunteering is invaluable in providing perspective into financial sustainability. In fact, this level of commitment is written into our DNA as a certified B-Corp.

Agreed Upon Strategies
